What Are Comments?

Comments allow you to:
  • Ask questions about a guide
  • Provide feedback to the author
  • Share additional tips or variations
  • Report issues or errors
  • Thank the author

Leaving a Comment

  1. Open any guide
  2. Scroll to the comments section at the bottom
  3. Type your comment in the text box
  4. Click Post Comment
First-time commenters: Your first comment on RTFM.guide will be moderated to prevent spam. Once approved, your future comments post immediately.

Comment Moderation

Why Moderation?

To keep the community friendly and spam-free:
  • First comment from each user is reviewed
  • Prevents automated spam bots
  • Ensures quality discussions
  • Protects against harassment

Moderation Status

Your comments can be in one of these states:

After First Approval

Once your first comment is approved:
  • All future comments post immediately
  • No waiting for moderation
  • You’re a trusted community member
Speed up approval: Write thoughtful, helpful first comments. Spam or low-quality comments may be rejected.

Editing Comments

Currently, comments cannot be edited after posting. Future updates will include:
  • Edit your own comments
  • Edit history
  • Deletion option
For now, if you need to correct a comment:
  1. Post a new comment with the correction
  2. Reference your previous comment
  3. Or contact support to delete the original

Deleting Comments

To delete your own comment:
  1. Find your comment
  2. Click the Delete button
  3. Confirm deletion

Comment Guidelines

Do’s ✅

  • Be helpful: Provide constructive feedback
  • Be specific: Reference exact issues or questions
  • Be respectful: Treat others as you want to be treated
  • Be grateful: Thank authors for their work
  • Be accurate: Test before suggesting changes

Don’ts ❌

  • No spam: No self-promotion or off-topic links
  • No harassment: No personal attacks or hate speech
  • No plagiarism: Credit others’ ideas
  • No demands: Authors volunteer their time
  • No low-effort: Avoid “thanks” or “+1” only comments

Viewing Comments

Sort Options (Coming Soon)

  • Newest first: See latest comments
  • Oldest first: Read chronologically
  • Most helpful: Top-rated comments first

Your Comments

See all your comments:
  • From your profile page
  • In your dashboard (coming soon)
  • Filtered by guide

For Guide Authors

Managing Comments

  • Respond to questions
  • Thank users for feedback
  • Update your guide based on comments
  • Report inappropriate comments

Notifications

Get notified when:
  • Someone comments on your guide
  • Someone replies to your comment (coming soon)
Configure in Settings.

Reporting Comments

If you see inappropriate comments:
  1. Click the Report button on the comment
  2. Select a reason:
    • Spam
    • Harassment
    • Off-topic
    • Misinformation
    • Other
  3. Provide details (optional)
  4. Submit report
Our moderators will review and take action.

Comment Etiquette

Asking Questions

Good question format:
I tried step 3 but got this error:
[paste error message]

I'm using Node 20 and npm 10. Any suggestions?
Bad question format:
doesn't work help!!!

Providing Feedback

Good feedback:
Great guide! One suggestion: on line 15, you could use
const instead of let since the variable isn't reassigned.
Bad feedback:
This is wrong. You don't know what you're doing.

Reporting Issues

Good issue report:
FYI: The link to the documentation in step 2 is broken.
The correct link is now: [new URL]
Bad issue report:
